Describe your relationship with your phone. Is it your lifeline, a buzzing nuisance, or something in between?
via Daily Prompt: Call Me, Maybe.
A little while ago there was another daily prompt talking about then next best thing since sliced bread. I still contend that the smart phone is it. Whether it’s an apple, android or blackberry, these are phones that can deliver the vast knowledge of the world to you.
I use my phone more now than ever. You see, I have a fiancée and she and I work a considerable distance apart. We’re on the same schedule, nights and days, weekends and holidays there are times we’re apart. With my phone and bluetooth in hand or ear in this case, I can reach out and touch her (yes stolen from some antiquated phone commercial). We’ve sat on the phone for 14 hours straight, and while we didn’t have a 14 hour conversation we were not separated during that time. She was in the other room, while in reality she was almost 50 miles away. We can talk or not talk but we’re together sharing the time we’d otherwise spend apart. This works well for the both of us.
I’m not sure why I still have a home phone, other than convenience and as a backup. This smart phone allows me to look up bits of information, both vital and trivial. To find out what time the movie starts, to what other movies a particular actor has been cast in as we watch them on the screen in front of us.
I’m not one to run back home just because I left my phone on the bedside table, but that is usually because she is in the car with me. Anyone who I wouldn’t want to miss a call from has her number too and not reaching me, they would call her cell.
My phone isn’t the end all be all, I am naked with out it type device. However, it is a the swiss army knife of data and communication and I am glad to have it.

That’s the one thing a cell phone is good for, I should admit. If I had someone to call if not being with that person, I would do just the same.
Thank you for the pingback! And I’m right there with you. It’s not quite a “lifeline” but it certainly comes close. Nice post!
